Series 30G Natural Gas Fueled Engine

Engine Configuration -- The Series 3OG Natural Gas engine is a 7.3L (444 cu. in.) 4 cycle engine utilizing a lean burn combustion process. The engine is the culmination of a joint development agreement between Detroit Diesel Corporation and Navistar International Transportation Corporation.

Ratings -- The Series 3OG engine has the rated power and peak torque characteristics of comparable competitive medium duty diesel engines and meets all appropriate emission standards. Lean burn combustion, turbocharging, and electronic engine controls provide superior fuel economy (thermal efficiency) and knock free-engine operation versus carbureted natural gas engines.

The engine is offered at the following ratings:
210 bhp @2600 rpm with a
peak torque of 485 lb-ft @
1500 rpm.

210 bhp @2400 rpm with a
peak torque of 485 lb-ft @
1500 rpm.

Features and Benefits
Today's Technology
  • Integration of state-of-the-art DDEC 111 (Detroit Diesel Electronic Control), provides ability to manage:
    • Spark timing
    • Air/fuel ratio control
    • Throttle position
    • Speed governing
  • Precise fuel and spark control to prevent engine knock
  • Vehicle-mounted solenoid actuates shut-off valve
    • Minimized exhaust emissions
    • Excellent engine performance
    • Engine diagnostics
    • Simple programmability
  • Additional DDEC 111 system features provide engine:
    • Protection
    • Tracking of cumulative data
    • Ability to connect to diagnostic and analytical tools
Serviceability
  • Maintenance free design with self tensioning / single Poly-Vee Serpentine belt drive
  • Valve lash adjustments eliminated due to hydraulic tappets with roller cam followers
A Reliable Forged Steel Gear Train
  • Gear driven power steering pump
  • Gear driven camshaft for trouble-free operation
  • Alloy steel camshaft induction hardened at the lobes and journal for long engine life
Forged Steel Crankshaft
  • Hardened crankshaft has induction hardened fillets and journals for additional strength and durability
  • Crankshaft designed for multiple regrinds
  • Large bearing surface areas for long engine life
  • Advanced manufacturing processes assure the highest level of precision and uniformity
  • Long service life due to strength of forged steel and large bearing surface
State Of-The Art Air Management
  • Optimized turbocharger for more powerful, economical and quieter operation
  • Air-to-air charge cooling provides maximum efficiency and performance
  • Integral turbocharger oil supply and drain eliminates any external tubes and connections assuring reliable Derformance start after start
Premium Design
  • Positive valve rotators extend the life of the valve face and seat
  • Stellite-faced valves and exhaust valve seats resist wear and enhance service life
Reduced Service
  • Reduced service required = lower cost of ownership
  • "Extender" oil filter improves return on investment with extended interval 8,000 mile oil and filter change
  • No valve lash adjustment is required
  • Standard coolant filter/conditioner requires service only four times in 100,000 miles of operation
Durability
  • Aluminum alloy pistons have a M-resist top ring insert which provide an ultra hard seat for long ring life
  • Keystone top ring with a special facing of molybdenum nickel chromium reduces oil consumption and extends the life of the piston and rings far better than simple chrome plated rings
  • Engine life extended by piston cooling jet tubes providing optimum temperature control and lubrication of the piston pin
  • "Plateau" honed cylinder bores contribute to long life and low oil consumption
